Can I legally play the local radio or iPod on hold?
No, as technically that would be breaking the music license laws, and would allow ASCAP, BMI, and SESAC to impose music licensing fees. When utilizing such streams of music--like the radio or other external non-licensed source--on your hold circuit you are doing so to benefit your business; therefore you owe compensation to the writers, producers, and license holders of the music.
Why do I need messaging hardware?
All PBX and KSU phone systems require messaging hardware. Think of it as needing a CD player to push a sound source through to an amplifier. VOIP systems do not require messaging hardware, however many VOIP customers still choose to use Remote-Load hardware for speed and flexibility.
I bought my phones at Radio Shack or Best Buy, do I still need hardware?
Yes. Actually you would need more than just messaging hardware; you will also need an adapter to enable messaging on your phones (also known as two-line hold systems). The good news is these adapters have technically come a long way, allowing customers with retail phones from Radio Shack and Best Buy to have customized on-hold-messaging.
We'll just have one main message playing, right?
No. Mac Donald Audio provides customers a minimum of six different and unique messages that rotate. Each message is around 20 to 25 seconds.
Will the messaging play on all lines of my phone system?
Yes.
I have two companies, is there a way to provide different messages on different phone lines?
Yes. It does, however, require an additional piece of hardware.
Do I need to update my messaging every year?
No. Some companies have had the same message playing for years. However, most customers agree that updating their on-hold messaging—even occasionally—offers far greater impact and results than leaving it stagnant for long periods of time. Remember, on-hold messaging is an important element of your marketing vision, and to be effective it needs attention.
Can I record my own voice or the staff I work with?
Yes. Thanks to state-of-the-art ISDN technology, Mac Donald Audio can record customers over the telephone in super high quality – almost as if they're right in our studio.
