Can I legally play the local radio or iPod on hold?
No, as technically that would be breaking the music license laws and would allow ASCAP, BMI, and SESAC to impose music licensing fees. When utilizing such streams of music like the radio or other external non-licensed source, you do so to benefit your business.   By US law you must therefore compensate the writers, producers, and license holders of that music.

Why do I need on-hold-messaging hardware?
All PBX phone systems require messaging hardware.  Think of it as needing a CD player to push sound through to an amplifier.  In this case the messaging hardware functions as the CD player and the phone system as the amplifier.  VoIP systems do not require messaging hardware, however many VoIP customers still choose to use Remote-Load hardware for speed and flexibility.

I bought my phones at Radio Shack or Best Buy, do I still need hardware?
Yes. Actually you would need more than just messaging hardware; you will also need an adapter to enable messaging on your phones (also known as two-line hold systems). The good news is these adapters have technically come a long way, allowing customers with retail phones from Radio Shack and Best Buy to have customized on-hold-messaging.

We have a VoIP based phone system, do I still need hardware?
Technically no, but for practical reasons yes.  New audio productions are loaded by CD onto the server of the VoIP system.  That means someone has to be responsible for loading the new audio productions at the client end.  Our experience has been that not all companies have IT personnel available to load the new audio production to the server, or if IT personnel are available, new audio productions are not loaded in a timely manner. These issues are a non-factor when remote-load messaging hardware is utilized with a VoIP based telephone system

We'll just have one main message playing, right?
No. MacDonald Audio provides customers a minimum of six different and unique messages that rotate. Each message is around 20 to 25 seconds.

Will the messaging play on all lines of my phone system?
Yes.

I have two companies, is there a way to provide different messages on different phone lines?
Yes. It does, however, require an additional piece of hardware.

Do I need to update my messaging every year?
If you want messaging that is most effective -- updating at least once per year is a must. A company that does not update over time sends a message of complacency and stagnation. Without updating the messaging becomes stale and dated. Remember, on-hold-messaging is an important element of your marketing and makes a first impression every time a call is placed on hold.  To be effective on-hold-messaging needs time attention and updating at least once per year.

Can I record my own voice or the staff I work with?
Yes. Thanks to state-of-the-art ISDN technology, Mac Donald Audio can record customers over the telephone in super high quality almost as if they're right in our studios.
